Goats and Chickens - Inman Park Style

Dixie Ave Goats - Inman Park

I'll bet you didn't know this existed in Inman Park.  One of our nice neighbors on Dixie Ave has goats and chickens in their backyard.  I know what the chickens are for but not sure about the goats.  Possibly for milk, cheese, making sweaters, or grazing on grass (eliminates the need for a lawn mower).

Anyway,  the animals look healthy and well cared for.  Maybe this is a new trend and we will see more farm animals in the neighborhood.  Only time will tell!

Inman Park - The Festival is Coming!

The 40th Annual Inman Park Spring Festival and Tour of Homes will take place on April 30 thru May 1, 2011, with a Home Tour preview on Friday, April 29.

It's a great time with something for everyone. Artists will have their booths lining the streets as usual. There's an area for kids to have some wholesome fun. There will be over 25 bands playing on three different stages. Of course the most fun will be the parade which is diversity personified. To check out the new festival website and get more information click here

Below are some shots from last year's Inman Park Festival.  As you can see from the photographs Saturday got rained out and Sunday was bright and sunny.  Let's hope for bright and sunny for the whole festival this year!

Spring Colors - Inman Park

Backlit Tulips on Elizabeth Street

I'm not an outdoor or nature photographer.  I mainly photograph people using strobes and flashes but since I've started this blog it's gotten me out and about in the neighborhood and forced me to shoot a different type of subject matter using natural light. I've really been enjoying it.

With all the color that's happening in the neighborhood thanks to Mother Nature and Spring I couldn't resist grabbing a few shots.

Dada Salon - Inman Park

Dada Salon on Hurt Street Inman Park

Dada Salon is owned by David Parker and is a collective of independent creative hair cutters and colorists.
The shop is small and cozy, has fun decor and a funky fun crew who honestly seem to like each other.
There are big authentic barber chairs and a homey atmosphere.  The shop is welcoming and intimate with a bit of a rustic vibe.

This place has an interesting concept in management, all of the stylists do their own booking, they pool money for beverages/snacks for clients, and check out their own customers at the end.  The shop is located on the corner of Hurt Street and Dekalb Avenue.  It is next to the old Shaun's restaurant location.  For more information click here.

Inman Park - Trees Part 2

Some wonderful Inman Park trees. Oh, and the house is nice too :) Elizabeth St.

The trees really do make the neighborhood great.  There's such a variety of flowering trees and towering trees to be found here.  I love the way the trees look in the winter but my favorite time for enjoying the trees is the beginning of spring when they are just beginning to get their leaves back.

Big thanks to the Trees Atlanta organization for planting new trees and helping maintain the older trees in the neighborhood. Click here to learn more about Trees Atlanta.

Inman Park - It's All About the Trees

Virgil Street Inman Park

The Inman Park neighborhood is all about flowering trees, including many varieties of Magnolia. The urban tree canopy is alive and well in the neighborhood.  The Inman Park Neighborhood Arboretum installed approximately eighty granite tree markers and published a map of the Arboretum's self-guided walking tour that can be found here.

Ashland Ave Fence and Sculpture - Inman Park

Ashland Ave Fence Inman Park

There's a house on Ashland Ave in the Inman Park neighborhood that has quite a bit of folk art and custom made fences on the front and side of the house.  The fence on the side of the house really stands out with the shapes cut into the top of each wooden plank.  I haven't seen a fence like this anywhere else in Atlanta.
